Things to do

When you're ready to leave the peace, quiet and relaxation of your room, we've put together this list of some of the other things you will want to experience during your stay in Dolores:

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States. >>> Go to website

Million Dollar Highway

No matter what you want from a scenic drive, Colorado’s famous Million Dollar Highway has it in spades. Loaded with sublime natural scenery, historically fascinating and visually appealing small towns, and, most of all, sheer driving pleasure, the Million Dollar Highway more than lives up to its name. One of the best-loved roads in the country, this classic stretch of two-lane blacktop forms a swirling ribbon through the San Juan Mountains, the wildest and ruggedest peaks in the Colorado Rockies.

Anasazi Heritage Center

The Anasazi Heritage Center is a federal museum, research center, and curation facility that introduces visitors to Four Corners prehistory. Approximately three million records, samples, and artifacts from public lands throughout southwestern Colorado form the Center's holdings. The Heritage Center is also the visitor center for the new Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. >>> Go to website

Fishing at McPhee Reservoir

Mike Japhet, a fishery biologist with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, calls McPhee Lake "the best fishing spot in the San Juan Basin." McPhee Lake covers 4,470 surface acres, with over 50 miles of shoreline and several long, narrow tree lined canyons. It is one of the largest lakes in Colorado with a maximum water depth at the dam of 270 feet. Since McPhee is located in a river canyon, much of the best fishing is accessible only by boat. In the side canyons, wakeless boating zones have been established for safety and to allow still-water fishing.

Ute Mountain Casino

Beneath the expansive western sky in Towaoc, Colorado, lie the states first Tribal gaming facility and the largest Casino in the Four Corners. Nestled in the shadow of the legendary Sleeping Ute Mountain, the Ute Mountain Casino, Hotel and Resort offers outhwestern hospitality, friendly faces, good food, and gaming excitement! Only a 1/2 hour drive from Dolores.
